Thankfully it was not raining and we enjoyed warm humid temps and a wickedly slippery muddy course on
consisting of grassy road, wide trail, and single track technical mountain biking trails with many short, steep
slippery climbs and short steep muddy descents. It is a very well organized race with nice swag – technical shirt and foam beer/soda insulator sleeve as well as finisher medals made from the bottoms of recycled glass
Zvonko Smlatic was 5th overall and 1st Masters at 1:31 and was only 1 min 45 sec back from the overall winner.Despite 2 falls that left him covered in mud from the waist down, and some blood too, Rob Kohnen
was 1st Grand Master and 8th overall at 1:33
Sheri Weinstein and Michelle Rose demolished the other female relay teams with a total time of 1:56 beating
the second place female team by over 3 minutes.
Nader Massoumi was 28th overall and 5th in age group at 1:47
I (Paul Carrington)had a good race too, no falls (although many close calls!!) and was 16th overall, 3rd in age group at 1:37 (Paul ran the Jacksonville Marathon with a Boston qualifying time of 3:18 one week before this race-ZS).
If any of you enjoy technical trail running keep this race in mind for next year, early January 2015.
Happy New Year and Happy running to all!
