Event details and schedule

Packet Pick-Up: Friday, January 27th, 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Fleet Feet Sports Sarasota (711 S Osprey Ave, Sarasota, FL 34236).  Packets may also be picked up on race morning.

Online registration closes at midnight on Thursday, January 26th.  Registration is available for a $5 price increase at Friday night packet pick-up or race morning. 

Schedule for Saturday, January 28th:

6:45 am – Packet Pick-up and Race Day Registration opens

7:30 am – Opening Ceremony

8:00 am – 5K

8:45 am – Kids Run

8:50 am – Dog Walk

Don’t forget to dress your furry friends in their most festive attire for the doggie costume contest!  Bring the whole family to enjoy face painting, bounce house, photo booth and vendors.

PLUS – Sarasota County Sheriff’s Animal Services will be onsite with puppies looking for their forever home, so take home your new best friend!

Parking: Free event parking is available in the Payne Park lot and in the parking garage located on Adams Lane.

Course: The Start and Finish areas are in Payne Park (2050 Adams Lane, Sarasota) on the School Avenue side of the park.  The Kids Run and Dog Walk course follows the 1/2 mile or 1 mile crushed cinder path in the park.  The 5K is a two lap course through the park on crushed cinder, concrete and grass.

Awards: Awards for the 5K will be given to the overall 5K finishers in the following categories for both male and female: Overall, Master, Grand Master, Senior Master, Veteran Master.  Age group awards will be given to teh top 6 finishers in the following age groups for both male and female: 9 & under, 10-12, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, and in five year increments up to 80 and above.

All Kids Run participants will receive a finisher’s medal and Dog Walk participants will receive a finisher’s dog tag.  A prize will also be given to the winner of the doggie costume contest.

Breakfast: All participants will receive a ticket for a FREE post-run breakfast! Additional meals can be purchased for $5 per plate.  A coffee station will also be available prior to the race.

Since its inception in 2000 the OSSP Scrub-jay Race has gone from strength to strength, with an ever-increasing number of participants each year. From little ones in strollers – hopefully runners of the future, through the young and middle years, to more mature folks!

And all with different ability and targets; some enjoy a leisurely stroll, others a brisk walk, but the majority – the dedicated – take the OSSP Scrub-jay Race very seriously, especially as it is a Manasota Track Club recognized event and therefore registered members qualify for points from this race.

The race is held completely within park confines, with frequent Water Stations and Guides along the course. Mostly on sandy and grass tracks through the park’s scrubby flatlands, although the start and finish are on paved roads and the Legacy Trail.

The race features; Chip Timing, nutritious post race Refreshments, free printed Tech-tee Shirts, Door prizes and Awards – six deep awards in all groups: Overall, Master, Grand Master, Senior Grand Master, and Veteran Grand Master.

About This Activity
The 3rd Annual SUP & RUN 5K event will be held Nathan Benderson Park to benefit Operation Second Chance (OSC). Take a moment to learn more about OSC here: www.OperationSecondChance.org

The SUP & RUN 5K gives athletes three great races in one to choose from. A 5K Run, a 5K SUP or a 5K SUP & RUN. Athletes participating in the combination SUP & RUN, run the 5K first and then hop on their paddle board for a 5K paddle around Nathan Benderson Park. The event draws top runners and SUP’ers who compete for cash prizes and the not-so-serious athletes have a prominent place in the event. The SUP & RUN 5K is a family style event.

WALKERS ARE WELCOME and encouraged to attend.

The SUP & RUN 5K race venue is world-class, the 4″ medals (all finishers receive one) are AMAZING, the race shirts and SWAG are truly head and shoulders above most races and the food & post race celebration party is FUN! FUN!

ALL RACES BEGIN AT 8AM (SHARP!)

There is ample parking at Nathan Benderson Park. For those who are renting paddle boards, the boards will be available on race morning. Volunteers will direct you to the pick-up location.

If you are renting a board – please arrive no later than 7am to secure your board and paddle.

PFD’S ARE REQUIRED AND MUST BE PROVIDED BY THE ATHLETE!

Dr. Heidi Anderson, our local dermatologist says…”don’t forget your sunscreen!”

Presented by Sarasota Athletic Association, this unique event offers an extraordinarily spectator friendly venue with full bleacher style front and center seating.

The weather will be warm on race day, so dress appropriately. The race director will have sunscreen for those who forget to bring theirs! Kids are welcome and encouraged to come out and participate. The sooner we get them interested in some sort of sport, the sooner they will meet all of the cool adults, like us!
